Kishane Thompson produced a scintillating sprint to defeat his long-time rival Noah Lyles and set a meeting record in the men’s 100m at the Diamond League Meeting in Silesia.
The victory marked sweet revenge for the Jamaican after narrowly missing out to Lyles in the Paris Olympic Games final, where both clocked 9.79 seconds but Lyles claimed gold by a mere five thousandths of a second.

The highly anticipated showdown lived up to expectations as Thompson blasted out of the blocks with precision and maintained his form all the way to the finish. Lyles, known for his strong closing speed, tried to reel him in but could only settle for second place in what was his season’s best performance.
Kenny Bednarek and Christian Coleman followed closely, finishing second and third in respective times of 9.96 seconds. Another American, Trayvon Bromell was fifth in the race.
The win in Silesia adds to Thompson’s impressive 2025 campaign, which began with a second-place finish behind Akani Simbine at the Diamond League Meeting in Keqiao.
He went on to claim victories at the JAAA WA Championships Preparation #1 and the Racers Grand Prix before stunning the athletics world at the Jamaican Championships with a 9.75-second clocking, the fastest time in the world since 2015.
The 24-year-old has also triumphed at the Prefontaine Classic and the Gyulai István Memorial, cementing his status as one of the most formidable sprinters on the circuit this season.
