Diamond League Zurich: Olympic Champions Tebogo and Davis-Woodhall Target Maiden Diamond Trophy at Zurich Final

by Beryl Oyoo

Olympic champions Letsile Tebogo and Tara Davis‑Woodhall will both be out to add a first Diamond Trophy to their mantlepieces when they line up at the Wanda Diamond League Final in Zurich on August 27–28.

The Botswanan 200m gold medallist from Paris 2024 and the United States’ long jump Olympic champion are among the latest global superstars to confirm their attendance at Weltklasse Zurich’s two‑day Final, organisers announced. They join a field of athletes who sealed qualification early and have now committed to the Swiss showpiece.

Tebogo arrives in Zurich fresh from his breakthrough at Paris 2024 and is aiming to translate that Olympic success into a first career Diamond League title in 2025. Davis‑Woodhall, who also claimed gold in Paris, will make her first ever appearance at a Diamond League Final in Zurich after notching three victories on the circuit over the past two seasons.

Also confirmed is 400m hurdles world record holder Karsten Warholm, who will be seeking to reclaim the Diamond Trophy, a prize he last won in 2021. Davis‑Woodhall faces a strong challenge in the women’s long jump from the likes of 2021 Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo of Germany and fellow American and current world indoor champion Claire Bryant.

The Wanda Diamond League remains the elite one‑day meeting series in global athletics, comprising 15 of the sport’s most prestigious events. Athletes accumulate points across the 14 series meetings to qualify for the two‑day Final in Zurich, where the season’s champions are decided.

The Final’s first day will be staged as a street event at Zurich’s Sechseläutenplatz and will showcase five field disciplines: the men’s pole vault, the women’s high jump, the men’s long jump and the men’s and women’s shot put. The remaining 27 disciplines are scheduled for the Letzigrund Stadium on the second day, forming a packed four‑hour programme of world‑class athletics.

With Olympic gold on their résumés but not yet a Diamond Trophy between them, Tebogo and Davis‑Woodhall will be among the headline attractions as the sport’s best gather in Zurich to close out the 2025 Diamond League season.
