Kenyan middle-distance runner Nelly Chepchirchir continued her impressive rise by winning the women’s 1000m at the Monaco Diamond League, clocking a personal best time of 2:29.77.
Moreover, the victory marked a significant milestone in her career and reinforced her ambitions for the upcoming Kenyan trials and the Tokyo Olympics.
While addressing the media post-race, Nelly Chepchirchir said she was pleased with how she controlled the race.
“I ran my race today, and I am happy the way I did it. I set my own pace, which let me run my personal best. It is great that I managed to improve my personal best which I set in Silesia last year,” she reflected after the race.
Her training group, which includes rising star Emmanuel Wanyonyi and several marathon runners, has played a key role in her development.
“The team helps me a lot to improve myself,” she added.
With the Kenyan trials approaching, Nelly Chepchirchir is focused on maintaining her form and competing against some of the world’s toughest athletes.
“I will compete next at the Kenyan trials, which are very competitive. I believe I can make the Tokyo team,” she said confidently.
Meanwhile, Nelly Chepchirchir’s win in Monaco and her personal best time have boosted her confidence as she aims to represent Kenya on the global stage. The Kenyan trials will be a crucial test, but her recent performances suggest she is ready to take on the challenge.
As the Diamond League season unfolds, all eyes will be on Nelly Chepchirchir to see if she can turn her breakthrough into an Olympic debut, continuing Kenya’s proud tradition in middle-distance running.
