Tapper’s win marks a significant milestone in her career, which has seen her steadily rise through the ranks of elite sprint hurdlers. After finishing 7th at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and reaching the final at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Tapper notably claimed an Olympic bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
Returning to the track after a two-month layoff due to an ankle injury, American record holder Masai Russell clocked a respectable 12.57s for fourth place. The 23-year-old made headlines earlier this season with her stunning 12.17s run at the Grand Slam Track: Miami meet.
Aside from her Olympic bronze, she was part of Jamaica’s shuttle hurdles relay team at the 2019 World Relays in Yokohama, Japan. Her 12.34s personal best was first set earlier this year in Kingston and now equaled under pressure in Monaco — a clear signal she is peaking just in time for the upcoming major championships.
The Diamond League season continues, with athletes jostling for points and positions ahead of the season finale in Zürich.
