Three-time Diamond League champion Sifan Hassan is set to make her much-anticipated return to the Wanda Diamond League circuit at the Novuna London Athletics Meet on July 19.
The Dutch superstar will line up in the women’s mile at the 11th stop of the 2025 Diamond League season, marking her first appearance of this year’s series.
London holds a special place in Hassan’s career, having been the city where she famously made her marathon debut in 2023.
“I’ve learned so much about myself racing in London, both on the road and the track, and I’m excited to return and to compete again at the Olympic stadium,” said Hassan in an Interview with Diamond League.
The versatile runner, known for fearlessly tackling multiple events, reflected on her adventurous campaign at the Paris Olympics last year where she competed across three distances.
“Last year my curiosity pushed me to take a risk and compete in three distances at the Paris Games. I know I’m probably a bit crazy to mix it up so much, but I like the combination of track and road and I want to see what is possible,” she admitted.
With her marathon season behind her, Hassan is now shifting focus back to the track for the summer, eager to test herself against a strong field in the mile, a distance where she holds historic pedigree. In 2019, Hassan smashed the world mile record at the Monaco Diamond League, further cementing her place among the greats.
Boasting an impressive 18 individual Diamond League victories and three overall titles, the Dutch athlete remains one of the most decorated female competitors in the history of the series. She previously clinched the 1500m title in 2015 and achieved a rare 1500m and 5000m double in 2019.
As she prepares to step onto the track at London’s Olympic stadium once again, fans can expect another thrilling performance from an athlete renowned for her courage, versatility, and relentless competitive spirit.
The Novuna London Athletics Meet is part of the Wanda Diamond League, the premier global one-day track and field series featuring 15 of the sport’s most prestigious meetings. Athletes accumulate points at each event in pursuit of qualification for the two-day Wanda Diamond League Final, scheduled for August 27-28 in Zurich.
