All Nike-sponsored athletes are set to wear special gold-accented kits at this year’s Prefontaine Classic, in celebration of the meet’s 50th edition.
The one-day event, which is part of Wanda Diamond League series, will take place on Saturday, July 5 at the iconic Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.
In a fitting tribute to both the legacy of Steve Prefontaine and the meet that bears his name, Nike athletes will don a commemorative #Pre50 kit. The custom-designed uniforms feature gold detailing as a nod to the golden anniversary of one of the sport’s most revered competitions.
Nike, the primary sponsor of the Prefontaine Classic since 1978, is going all out for this year’s milestone. In addition to the special-edition uniforms, the brand has also unveiled a limited-run Pre50 Air Max 1 sneaker and a Nike N7 x Pendleton blanket ,exclusive merchandise.
The gold-accented Nike kits will be worn by several of the brand’s most prominent athletes, including the World record holder, Faith Kipyegon, American sprint star Christian Coleman among others.
This year’s meet promises to be one of the most star-studded in history. Nearly 300 athletes from over 40 countries will descend on Hayward Field to compete in 27 professional events. Among them are 98 Olympic and Paralympic medalists, including 48 Olympic and Paralympic gold medalists and 14 world record holders.
Also, fans will get to see five full podium rematches from 2024 Paris in the Women’s 100m whereby Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred is set to reunite with her podium rivals Sha’Carri Richardson and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden.
