New Zealand high jump star Hamish Kerr is lifting the lid on one of the small but powerful routines fueling his 2025 season.
In a recent Instagram story, the Olympic and World Indoor champion offered a glimpse of his pre-training ritual, revealing his go-to supplement for staying sharp during tough sessions.
The photo showed Kerr trackside with a packet of 2before Performance Blackcurrant Pre-Workout (Caffeinated) by his feet. His caption read:
“The go-to getting me through trainings lately @2beforeperformance. Caffeine for less, antioxidants stopping me get, anthocyanins for more.”
The product blends natural caffeine with blackcurrant anthocyanins, potent antioxidants known for supporting muscle recovery. Also, reducing inflammation, and boosting endurance. It’s a formula that seems to be working.
Kerr’s 2025 Diamond League campaign started strongly. He opened with a second-place finish in Doha, narrowly edged by American Shelby McEwen, the same rival he dramatically beat in a jump-off to clinch Olympic gold in Paris last year.
He then made a statement in Rabat, claiming his first Diamond League victory of the year. With a clean scorecard through 2.25m, Kerr was awarded the win on countback after no competitor managed 2.28m. he finished ahead of JuVaughn Harrison (USA) and Yual Reath (AUS).
At the Rome Diamond League on June 6, Hamish Kerr continued to show strong early-season form. He cleared 2.16m, 2.21m, and 2.25m on first attempts, briefly taking the lead in a high-quality contest.
Though he ultimately finished outside the top three, the competition delivered valuable takeaways. The event was won by South Korea’s Sanghyeok Woo, who cleared a season-best 2.32m ahead of Ukraine’s Oleh Doroshchuk and Jamaica’s Romaine Beckford.
Now, Kerr is eyeing his next big stage, the Monaco Diamond League on July 11. The Herculis EBS meeting at Stade Louis II holds special meaning for the Kiwi. It was there in 2024 that he soared to 2.33m, setting the tone for his golden run at the Paris Olympics two weeks later.
A serial performer on the global stage, Kerr’s resume includes gold medals at the 2024 Summer Olympics, the 2024 World Indoor Championships (adding to his bronze from 2022), and the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He also holds the Oceanian indoor high jump record and shares the Oceanian outdoor record.
