Tyreek Hill didn’t waste time throwing shade after edging out Josephus Lyles, the younger brother of track superstar Noah Lyles in the 100 meters at the ATX Sprint Classic on Saturday, June 28, in Austin, Texas.
Shortly after the race, Hill took to his Instagram stories to stoke the fire. In a cheeky video, the Miami Dolphins wide receiver held up a handwritten paper sign that read “Noah Lyles Could Never,” laughing as Josephus appeared alongside him in the clip.
Tyreek Hill clocked a wind-assisted 10.10 seconds to finish fourth in his heat ahead of Josephus Lyles in the latest installment of what’s quickly becoming a track-and-field side quest for the NFL star. Earlier this month, Hill posted a personal best of 10.15 seconds at the Last Chance Sprint Series in Los Angeles.
Saturday’s race at the ATX Sprint Classic marked his second known competitive appearance in as many weeks. Hill wasn’t the overall heat winner ,finishing 0.10 seconds behind Lawrence Johnson. However, the result was enough to fuel his ongoing rivalry with Noah Lyles.
That rivalry, it turns out, has been simmering for months. Back in February, both Hill and Lyles had agreed to a one-on-one race after trading jabs online. But in early June, Lyles confirmed that the highly anticipated showdown was off, citing “personal reasons” despite admitting the two were “very deep into creating the event.”
