Two-time reigning world champion Chase Jackson delivered a shot put masterclass on Saturday at the Iron Wood Classic in Rathdrum, Idaho, throwing a staggering 20.95 meters to smash her own American record.
It was not only a world-leading mark for 2025, but also the farthest women’s shot put throw since 2013 , when New Zealand’s Valerie Adams threw 20.98m. More notably, Jackson’s mark stands as the best-ever by a rotator-style thrower in the discipline.
The 30-year-old launched her record-breaking effort on her first attempt, surpassing her previous American record of 20.76m set in 2023. Behind her on the day were Maggie Ewen (19.69m) and Jaida Ross (19.62m), completing an American podium sweep.
After the competition, Jackson took to Instagram posting Jillian Camarena-Williams, the retired shot put legend, captioned:
“Had to show off in front of the GOAT today.”
Camarena-Williams, a two-time Olympian (2008, 2012) and former American indoor record holder, remains a trailblazer in the sport. She won the Pan American Junior Championships in both 1999 and 2001 and claimed national titles in 2006 and 2010. Her 2011 indoor throw of 19.87m at the USA Championships broke a record that had stood since 1987.
Chase Jackson is set to return to the ring at the Prefontaine Classic next Saturday, part of the Diamond League series, where all eyes will be on whether she can climb even higher in the record books.
