Shericka Jackson was overwhelmed with emotion moments after securing her place on Jamaica’s team to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September.
The two-time world champion and fifth-fastest woman in history over 100m shared a deeply personal moment with fans following the JAAA National Senior Championships. Jackson, finished second in the women’s 100m final with a season’s best 10.88 seconds. She received a surprise gesture from a group of close friends that, in her own words, “complete my heart.”
Tina Clayton stole the show that night, claiming her first senior national title in a personal best 10.81 seconds. The legendary Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, 38, produced a clutch performance to finish third in 10.91 seconds. She also secured her own spot for Tokyo. Though Jackson missed out on a fourth straight national title, she left the stadium with her Tokyo dream intact, and with her spirits lifted by love off the track.
Special Gift
Later that evening, Jackson took to Instagram to post a photo of the surprise: a stunning bouquet from her friends @adorable.br3., @pwedii_tenii, @hannnah._, and @simply_annaa.. “Really appreciate this so much 🤍🤍,” she wrote. “A gift from my babies… And to top it off. A very special note each from them. This complete my heart 🤍🤍.”
Shericka Jackson’s career is already one for the history books. A former 400m specialist, she has earned Olympic and World medals in the 100m, 200m, and 400m, as well as both sprint relays.
With personal bests of 10.65 in the 100m, 21.41 in the 200m (the second-fastest time ever), and 49.47 in the 400m. She stands as one of the most complete sprinters of all time.
She is the first athlete in World Championship history to win medals in the 100, 200, and 400 meters. This includes both the 4×100m and 4×400m relays. Also, she’s just the second person ever after East Germany’s Marita Koch to medal in all five disciplines across the Olympics and World Championships.
