Josephus Lyles, Noah Lyles’ younger brother, fell just short of NFL star Tyreek Hill in the 100m preliminary heats at the ATX Sprint Classic on June 28 in Austin, Texas.
Hill clocked 10.10 seconds (+2.7 m/s wind) finishing fourth to edge out Josephus, who finished fifth in 10.25 in a highly competitive heat. The race was won by Lawrence Johnson in 10.00.
It wasn’t the showdown fans expected. Just a few weeks ago, the much-hyped 60m clash between Tyreek Hill and Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles was called off. Now, instead of the main event, fans got the next-best thing. Hill versus Josephus Lyles, a pro sprinter in his own right with credentials that go beyond his famous last name.

At 26, Josephus is a seasoned athlete who’s focused mostly on the 200m and 400m in recent seasons. He owns a personal best of 10.03 in the 100m and a sharp 19.93 in the 200m. Earlier this month in Florida, he ran 10.23 in his season debut making his 10.25 in Austin a solid follow-up.
Meanwhile, Tyreek Hill, now 31, continues to shock the track world every time he returns. The Miami Dolphins wide receiver, who earned the nickname “Cheetah” for obvious reasons, last competed seriously on the track over a decade ago.
But since making a comeback, he’s clocked 10.15 in California on June 13, a time that turned heads even among seasoned sprinters.
