American sprint hurdler Grant Holloway has reacted Candidly after another disappointing result in the 110m hurdles, this time at the Ostrava Golden Spike meet in the Czech Republic.
Taking to his X account (formerly Twitter), Holloway wrote:
“Welp GGs… 13.1 today in Czech Republic 🇨🇿 🥈 Just embarrassing, I will figure it out.”
It was the second time in four days that Grant Holloway lost to compatriot Dylan Beard. At the Diamond League meeting in Paris last Friday, Holloway only managed fifth as Beard finished second. In Ostrava, both men clocked 13.13 seconds (+0.6), but Beard edged Holloway at the line with a well-timed surge to take victory in a dramatic finish.
“This is not the way I execute the race,” Holloway admitted post-race, though he added that “the time is all right.”
Austria’s Enzo Diessl finished third in 13.25s, followed closely by Eric Edwards in 13.26s, a season’s best for the American. Czech hurdlers Jonáš Kolomazník and Štěpán Štefko also impressed, each setting personal bests of 13.71s and 13.87s respectively.
Holloway’s Dominance
Holloway remains one of the most dominant sprint hurdlers of his generation. He burst onto the global stage by winning gold at the 2019 World Championships in Doha and has since added three consecutive world titles to his name. Despite a silver medal finish at the Tokyo Olympics, he bounced back to claim Olympic gold at the Paris 2024 Games.
His dominance in the 60m hurdles indoors is even more staggering. Holloway has not lost a race in the event since he was 16 years old, an unbeaten streak that now spans over 11 years and 94 races. He set the world indoor record of 7.27 seconds in Albuquerque last year.
Earlier this year, he added a third World Indoor title in Nanjing. However, his 2025 outdoor season has been less convincing. After a strong start in Gainesville, where he earned a win and a runner-up finish, Holloway placed 10th in Xiamen. He later pulled out of races in Shanghai and Atlanta City, reportedly due to injury.
The recent defeats in Paris and Ostrava now raise questions about his current form.
