Italy has announced a powerful lineup for Italy’s 2025 European Team Championships squad, set to compete from June 27 to 29 at Madrid’s Vallehermoso Stadium.

Meanwhile, leading the charge are Nadia Battocletti, Filippo Tortu, and Mattia Furlani—three of Italy’s brightest stars—who will spearhead the squad, packed with talent and experience across track and field events.

Season Highlights Boost Italy’s 2025 European Team Championships Squad Medal Hopes

Nadia Battocletti comes into the championships after a strong season, maintaining the form that earned her silver in the 10,000 meters at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

She has shown consistent endurance and tactical skill in her 5,000-meter races this year, making her a key contender for Italy’s squad in the long-distance events.

On the other hand, Sprinter Filippo Tortu has posted impressive times in 2025, with a season-best 20.41 seconds in the 200 meters at the Doha Diamond League and a 10.19 in the 100 meters at the Rome Diamond League.

Mattia Furlani, who claimed silver in the long jump at the 2024 European Athletics Championships, has continued to impress this season with solid international performances. His consistency makes him a cornerstone of Italy’s squad in the field events.

Larissa Iapichino, also a long jump silver medalist, joins Furlani to strengthen the jumps section of Italy’s 2025 European Team Championships squad. Meanwhile, Hammer thrower Sara Fantini adds depth and reliability to the team’s throwing events, having delivered steady results throughout the season.

Shot put European champion Leonardo Fabbri and 60m hurdles European champion Lorenzo Simonelli bring championship-winning experience to the event. Both have recorded strong marks in 2025, reinforcing Italy’s chances to secure valuable points.

In addition, distance runner Yemaneberham Crippa complements Battocletti in the 5,000 meters, posting competitive times this season and enhancing the team’s prospects on the track.

Despite the late withdrawal of Marcell Jacobs, the 2020 Olympic 100m champion, Italy’s squad remains deep and competitive. This blend of seasoned champions and emerging talents, backed by solid seasonal performances, positions Italy as a serious contender to defend its European Team Championships title in Madrid.
