Diamond League Paris: Marileidy Paulino Edges Salwa Eid Nasser As Isabella Whittaker Wilts in Charged 400m

Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino continued her imperious form in the women’s 400m, claiming victory at the Paris Diamond League with a season-best and meeting record of 48.81 seconds.

Running from lane five, Paulino kept her composure as American Lynna Irby-Jackson set a blistering pace from lane eight. She then surged past Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser on the final bend, using her trademark late kick to cross the line first in one of the fastest times this season

Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser, the Grand Slam Track champion, pushed Paulino all the way but had to settle for second place in 48.85 seconds. Chile’s Martina Weil made history for her country by clocking a National Record of 49.83 seconds to finish third. NCAA indoor champion Isabella Whittaker placed sixth with 50.18.
