Emmanuel Wanyonyi produced a breathtaking performance to win the men’s 800m at the Stockholm Diamond League, clocking a stunning world-leading time of 1:41.95 on Sunday evening.
The Olympic champion stamped his authority on the track, powering past his all-time rival Djamel Sedjati of Algeria, who finished second in a season-best 1:42.27. American Josh Hoey claimed third place with a personal best of 1:42.43.

It was a significant milestone for Wanyonyi, marking the fifth time in his career that he has dipped under the 1:42 barrier. In the history of the 800m event, only the legendary world record holder David Rudisha has run faster more often, achieving the feat seven times.
The result continues a steady upward trajectory for Wanyonyi, who finished third in Rabat last month in what was his first 800m appearance since a runner-up finish at the Grand Slam Track meet in Kingston, Jamaica, back in April.
With less than three months to go before the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, Wanyonyi’s impressive form suggests he is firmly on track to challenge for global honours later this season.
