Jamal Britt claimed the overall crown at the Grand Slam Track (GST) meet in Philadelphia, delivering standout performances in both the 100 meters and 110-meter hurdles to secure the coveted Slam title.
The weekend’s action saw plenty of fireworks on the track, with USA’s Trey Cunningham grabbing early headlines by winning the 100m sprint in 10.36 seconds (-1.9 m/s wind). While Cunningham took the sprint victory, it was Britt’s consistency across both sprint and hurdles events that made the difference.
Britt finished a close second in the 100m dash with a time of 10.50, just behind Cunningham, and ahead of Italy’s Lorenzo Ndele Simonelli, who clocked 10.52 for third. But the pivotal moment came in the men’s 110-meter hurdles, where Britt produced a season-best performance of 13.08 seconds (+0.7 m/s wind) to stun a high-caliber field and claim first place.
In a closely contested hurdles final, Britt edged out the world leader Cordell Tinch, who posted 13.10 seconds, and 2022 World Championships silver medalist Trey Cunningham, who finished third in 13.18 seconds. The performance not only gave Britt valuable points toward the Slam standings but also showcased his readiness ahead of a packed summer season.
Speculation was high before the meet over whether Cunningham could replicate his Miami success, but with Britt’s sharp form in the hurdles and solid sprint finish, the overall victory belonged to the Iowa native.
The Philadelphia stop now sets the stage for the highly anticipated Grand Slam Track finale in Los Angeles on June 27. With records under threat and rivalries intensifying, fans can expect another electrifying chapter in this fast-rising track series.
