Kenya’s Agnes Ngetich delivered a thrilling performance at the Grand Slam Track Philadelphia meet on May 31, 2025, clinching victory in the women’s 3000m with a time of 8:43.61.
She narrowly edged out Ethiopia’s Ejgayehu Taye, who finished in 8:43.70, and American Josette Andrews, who came in third with a time of 8:44.70. The top three were separated by just over a second, highlighting the fierce competition on the track.
The win from Agnes Ngetich earned her 12 Grand Slam points and a $50,000 prize. Solidifying her dominance in the long-distance category of the series. It also marked her second major victory of the season. This is after following her world-leading 5000m run at the Miami Slam earlier in May. With two major wins under her belt, the Kenyan star continues to be one of the standout athletes of the 2025 campaign.
The 3000m field was stacked with talent. Ethiopia’s Medina Eisa placed fourth in 8:46.31, just ahead of fellow Ethiopian Likina Amebaw, who clocked 8:47.23 for fifth place. U.S. champion Weini Kelati finished sixth with a time of 8:50.76, followed by Mexico’s Laura Galván (8:52.50) in seventh.
Great Britain’s Jessica Warner-Judd, known for her versatility from cross country to the track, finished eighth in 8:55.67. Kenya’s second entrant, Emmaculate Anyango Achol, who was in contention early on, faded to ninth place in 9:02.89.
Agnes Ngetich’s commanding performance not only earned her financial rewards but also strengthened her reputation. She continues to put her name as one of the most formidable long-distance runners on the global stage.
