Matthew Hudson-Smith opened his 2025 Grand Slam Track campaign in dominant fashion, becoming the first Racer to win a 400m event this season with a powerful 44.51-second run at Franklin Field, Philadelphia.
The British 400m record-holder and Olympic silver medallist put on a clinical display. Matthew Hudson lead the pack by over half a second to secure his maiden victory in the new league. The win earned him vital points and pushed him halfway toward the $100,000 season prize.
After a strong opening 200m, Trinidad & Tobago’s Jereem Richards looked like a contender but faded late, as Khaleb McRae of the U.S. closed well to finish second in 45.04.
Richards settled for third in 45.05, just ahead of Zambia’s Muzala Samukonga (45.10). Hudson-Smith, fresh off wins in Kingston and with two prior sub-45s this season (44.37 and 44.65), now looks well poised to reclaim the Long Sprints crown on the Grand Slam circuit.
