Jamaican sprint sensation Tina Clayton is gearing up to impact the Grand Slam Track event in Philadelphia tomorrow majorly. Inspired by her twin sister Tia Clayton, Tina confidently declared in a recent interview, “It’s my turn to shine,” signalling her readiness to step fully into the senior spotlight.
Tina Clayton, a two-time World Under-20 champion in the 100m and 4x100m relay, emphasised her close bond with Tia, saying,
“Training has been going well because everyone knows that my sister and I are not just sisters. We are training partners, and we both push each other. So training is going well.” She added that her sister’s accomplishments motivate her to work harder: “Her accomplishing what she did last year is motivating me to wake up and train a little harder and to go hard.”
The Grand Slam Track Philly event, set for May 31 to June 1 and broadcast on CW streaming via Peacock, will feature a strong Jamaican contingent, including Ackera Nugent, Danielle Williams, Megan Tapper, Rushell Clayton, and Bryan Levell. Past Grand Slam champions like Danielle Williams and Ackera Nugent have set a high bar, and the question remains whether another Jamaican will claim the title this year.
Clayton recently clocked an impressive 11.16 seconds at the J3A’s World Athletics Championships Preparations meet, showing promising form as she aims for a spot on Jamaica’s World Championships team. She remains pragmatic yet confident:
“The mindset is always high, but you know, we are in a very ungrateful sport, and anything can happen, but I have my goals and I have my mindset to make the team,” said Tina Clayton in an interview with Peter Lloyd World.
For now, all eyes will be on Tina Clayton to see if she will dare the who’s who in the sprinting world. For more updates, catch up with Chase Athletics. We will update bit by bit as the event unfolds.
