Anna Cockrell, the 2024 Olympic silver medalist, made a triumphant debut at the Grand Slam Track: Philly meet on Saturday, winning the women’s 400-meter hurdles in commanding fashion.
The 26-year-old American clocked 54.04 seconds, holding off a competitive field to secure her first Grand Slam victory and reaffirm her status as one of the top hurdlers in the world.
Cockrell’s debut got off to a stellar start as she powered through the final stretch to finish ahead of fellow American Jasmine Jones, who took second place in 54.65 seconds.
Jamaica’s Andrenette Knight rounded out the podium with a strong run of 54.86. The race also featured top-tier talents including 2016 Olympic champion Dalilah Muhammad, who finished fourth in 54.88. World Championship medalist Rushell Clayton of Jamaica, came in fifth with 55.14.
The win continues a brilliant season for Cockrell, who claimed Olympic silver in Paris last year with a personal best of 51.87 seconds. Born in San Ramon, California, and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, she has steadily risen through the ranks. Since her collegiate career at the University of Southern California (USC), where she earned NCAA titles and academic honors.
Cockrell’s consistency, speed, and mental resilience have positioned her as a dominant force in the 400m hurdles globally. Her performance in Philadelphia not only adds another accolade to her growing list of achievements but also sends a clear message ahead of upcoming international competitions.
