American 400m hurdler Bianca Stubler is determined to upgrade her bronze medal from last year’s Absa Kip Keino Classic to gold as she returns for the sixth edition of the Continental Tour Gold Series event at Ulinzi Sports Complex this Saturday.

The 25-year-old athlete, who serves as an assistant sprints coach at Loyola University Chicago, faces stiff competition from defending champion Amalie Iuel of Norway and a strong field of international stars, including Elisabeth Slettum (Norway), Jessica Wright (USA), Kristiina Halonen (Finland), and Eileen Demes (Germany).

Stubler’s Confidence Ahead of the Race

Having gained valuable experience from last year’s event, Stubler is optimistic about her chances.

“It will be my second time at the Kip Keino Classic, and I can only promise one thing—to strike gold. That’s my aim,” she declared.

“I’ve perused the lineup, and most of the competitors are well-known to me. I’ve raced against many of them before, including at last weekend’s Croatia Continental Gold Meet. I already have my strategy to dominate the field.”

Reflecting on her 2023 debut, Stubler described the atmosphere as electrifying.

“It was a little wild, but an amazing experience. The crowd was the most wild I’ve ever seen. I did well last year, but now I’m aiming higher. I can’t wait to compete at that high-octane level again in this awesome place.”

Drawing Inspiration from Sydney McLaughlin

Stubler draws motivation from her compatriot, world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who has shattered six world records in the 400m hurdles, with the current mark standing at 50.37 seconds.

“Sydney is on another level, and I look up to her for inspiration. We’re all on our own journeys, and I admire what she’s achieved. I’m still young, and I believe in my potential to rise someday.”

She added that competing against elite athletes like McLaughlin has been invaluable for her growth.

“It’s an honor to come from the U.S., where the competition is so deep. Racing against the best multiple times a year is a privilege, and I’m gaining the experience I need for the world stage.”

Olympic Dreams and Future Plans

Beyond the Kip Keino Classic, Stubler has a packed schedule, with upcoming meets in Italy and Jamaica. Her ultimate goal is securing a spot at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

“The dream is always the Olympics. I won’t stop until I get there. Winning gold would mean everything to me.”

Giving Back Through Coaching

Despite her young age, Stubler has embraced a coaching role at Loyola University Chicago, emphasizing her desire to give back to the sport.

“Coaching allows me to share my knowledge and inspire the next generation. Athletics has given me so much, and I want to contribute in any way I can.”
