Meanwhile, Faith Cherotich, Kenya’s Olympic bronze medalist and reigning Diamond League champion, lines up against world champion Winfred Yavi of Bahrain, Olympic gold medalist Peruth Chemutai of Uganda. Ethiopia’s rising star Sembo Almayew will also feature in the lineup.

Faith Cherotich opened her 2025 campaign with a dramatic, world-leading victory at the Doha Diamond League. Clocking a blistering 9:05.08 and outkicking Yavi in the final meters. That race not only highlighted her tactical intelligence and finishing speed but also announced her readiness to dominate on the global stage.

As the Prefontaine Classic draws near, Cherotich remains focused and confident. She recently declared,

“I don’t fear her anymore,” referring to Yavi, signalling her determination to challenge the sport’s established order.

While rivalry with Winfred Yavi and Chemutai continues to grow, Almayew’s emergence adds another layer of excitement to the event. Moreover, these dynamics guarantee the women’s 3000m steeplechase will be one of the meet’s most anticipated races.

The Prefontaine Classic run from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Pacific Time at the University of Oregon. It is meant to attract the world’s top athletes and deliver electrifying competition. Cherotich, is highly recognised as the 2023 World Athletics Rising Star and a former World U20 champion. However, she now aims to build on her early-season momentum. She is determined to cement her status as the world’s premier steeplechaser.

With the eyes of the athletics world fixed on Eugene, Cherotich prepares for a high-stakes battle against the titans of her event.
