Nelly Jepchirchir Claims Second Diamond League Victory with Stunning 1500m Win in Rabat

Kenya’s rising middle-distance star Nelly Nelly Jepchirchir continued her dominant run in the 2025 athletics season with a sensational win in the women’s 1500m at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Rabat, Morocco on Sunday.

The towering teenager clocked a season’s best of 3:58.04 to cross the finish line ahead of Ethiopia’s Worknesh Mesele. Mesele also recorded a season’s best of 3:58.44.

Fellow Kenyan Dorcus Ewoi capped an impressive race with a personal best of 3:59.25 to secure third place on the podium. She underlined Kenya’s depth in the women’s middle-distance events.

Chepchirchir’s victory in Rabat comes barely a week after she claimed the 1500m title at the Doha Diamond League, the third leg of the global series. In that race, she stunned the field with a superb kick in the final lap to win in 4:05.00. She showed not just speed but also tactical maturity beyond her years.

Prior to her Diamond League success, the 20-year-old was also victorious at the Adizero Road to Records meet in Herzogenaurach, Germany, where she clocked 4:23.99 to win the women’s mile . This further demonstrates her range and consistency over various middle-distance events.

Her performance trajectory points to a promising season ahead, with eyes now turning to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo later this year.

Chepchirchir, a finalist at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, has shown marked improvement since then. Now racing with confidence, precision, and growing experience on the big stage.

Her back-to-back Diamond League victories are not only a testament to her rising status but also a signal to the world. This shows that a new Kenyan star is firmly on the ascent in women’s 1500m.
