Tirunesh Dibaba won three Olympic gold medals and six total Olympic medals across four Games. She claimed gold in both the 5,000m and 10,000m at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and defended her 10,000m title in 2012.
She became the youngest female World Champion at age 18 in 2003. In 2005, TiruneshDibaba won double gold in the 5,000m and 10,000m at the World Championships, the first woman to do so.
Tirunesh set world records in the indoor and outdoor 5,000m. She also holds Ethiopian records in the 10,000m and marathon and multiple World Cross Country titles.
In 2008, Tirunesh earned the athlete of the year from Track and Field News and was recognised for outstanding performances by the IAAF.
