Baylor University’s Alexis Brown delivered a jaw-dropping performance at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, leaping 7.03 meters (23 feet, 0.75 inches) in her first jump of the day
That distance not only earned her national acclaim but also marked her entry into the prestigious seven-meter club.
“I knew I could do it. My coach knew I could do it — but doing it for the first time, it’s wild,” Brown said. “Never knew how far I jumped until I looked at the stands and saw Coach Stacey clapping and screaming. I said, ‘Okay, it must have been far.’ Then when I saw the mark, I was like, ‘Ooh my, it’s that far!’”
With that historic leap, the Kennedale, Texas native soared to the top of the 2025 world outdoor rankings. She became number 3 on the all-time collegiate list. She tied for No. 8 in U.S. history, and became the second-best American collegiate woman ever in the long jump.
Brown’s stellar showing in the long jump was just one highlight in a dominant performance at the Big 12 Championships. She clinched gold in both the long jump and the 4x100m relay. Brown went ahead and added a silver in the 100m sprint — solidifying her status as one of the most versatile and explosive athletes in collegiate track and field.
Her performances have earned her a coveted debut spot on the prestigious Bowerman Watch List — track and field’s highest individual honor.
Ranks
Alexis Brown becomes only the second Baylor woman to receive the recognition after Aaliyah Miller in 2021. She is now the 27th woman to be named to the list this year — an all-time record.
Now a graduate student, Brown has already captured the indoor title in the long jump. She is setting herself up as a favorite for NCAA glory — and potentially, global success. With the 2025 World Athletics Championships 2025 looming, all eyes will be on the young star from Baylor.
