Italian Hurdler Outpaces Strong Field from Lane 3 in Thrilling Race

The 2025 Diamond League season kicked off with fierce competition in Doha, drawing some of the world’s top 400m hurdlers. Fans eagerly anticipated a fast and exciting race as athletes prepared to make their mark early in the year.

Among the contenders were Turkey’s Ismail Nezir, Slovenia’s Matic Ian Gucek, and American CJ Allen, all aiming to start their seasons with strong performances. In addition, the atmosphere was electric as the runners took their positions on the track. But what stunned many was Alessandro Sibilio’s speed.

Racing from lane 3, Alessandro Sibilio delivered a commanding performance to win the men’s 400m hurdles. He crossed the finish line first in 49.32 seconds, narrowly beating Nezir, who finished second in 49.40 seconds. Guček claimed third place with 49.49 seconds, while Allen finished fifth in 49.90 seconds.

Who is Alessandro Sibilio?

Alessandro Sibilio is a prominent Italian sprinter and hurdler specialising in the 400 metres and 400 metres hurdles. Born on April 27, 1999, in Naples, Italy, he has established himself as a leading figure in Italian athletics.

Sibilio won a gold medal at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships. He has competed in multiple major international events, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where he reached the final in the 400m hurdles. Alessandro Sibilio also helped set a national record in the 4x400m relay.

In June 2024, he set a new Italian national record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 47.50 seconds, earning a silver medal at the European Championships in Rome. Known for his resilience and determination, Sibilio balances his athletic career with academic pursuits, holding a degree in Management Engineering.

He trains with the Fiamme Gialle club under coach Gianpaolo Ciappa and is considered one of Italy’s top track athletes.
