Reigning Olympic 200m champion Letsile Tebogo has sent a message of excitement and unity ahead of his much-anticipated debut in Doha, which is slated on May 16 as he’s set to compete in the men’s 100m.
“I can’t wait to see you in Doha. Let’s go there, let’s go have fun, let’s support each other,” Tebogo said in a video shared on his Instagram story, radiating both confidence and camaraderie.
The Botswanan sprint sensation is set to compete in the 100m – the event in which he claimed silver behind American star Noah Lyles at the 2023 World Championships. His appearance in Doha marks his second 200m race this season, having opened with a stunning victory at the Botswana Grand Prix on home soil.
Tebogo, who made history last year by becoming the first Botswanan to win Olympic gold in the 200m, also dominated the track during the Diamond League circuit, clinching five wins between July and September. Despite his brilliant form, he narrowly missed out on the overall Diamond League title after a surprise loss to U.S. rival Kenny Bednarek at the Brussels final.
Now with his focus shifted to the 100m, Tebogo is determined to make a statement this season. He’ll be eyeing early points in the Wanda Diamond League, the premier global track and field series featuring 14 qualifying meetings leading up to the grand finale in Zurich on August 27–28, 2025.
Tebogo’s Doha debut is not just another race – it’s a mission to reaffirm his place among the sprinting elite and ignite what promises to be a thrilling season.
In one of his interviews some weeks ago ,he had announced that he is more mature and readier to handle anything that comes his way as he eyes the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan in September.
“I’m excited to race in Doha, my first time competing there. I know the field will be very competitive and I’m looking forward to seeing how I perform,” Letsile Tebogo said as per Diamond League
“Last year was tough both emotionally and physically but I’m excited to compete and to see how the season develops. It’s going to be a very long season, but I’m more experienced and mature and I’m ready to push my body to its limits and make every moment count.”
