Success Eduan delivered a career-best anchor leg on Sunday, securing gold for Great Britain in the women’s 4x100m relay final at the World Relay Championships in Guangzhou, China.

The 20-year-old, making her senior international debut, lined up against Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson and Spain’s Maria Perez. Running the anchor leg from the outside lane, Eduan surged past her rivals on the final straight to secure victory for the British quartet in a time of 42.21 seconds.

She teamed up with Nia Wedderburn-Goodison, Amy Hunt, and Bianca Williams. Wedderburn-Goodison, another debutant, got the team off to a flying start before handing over to Hunt, who powered down the back straight with Jamaica hot on her heels. Williams maintained the momentum on the curve, setting up Eduan for a dramatic final leg.

Spain finished second in 42.28 seconds, while pre-race favourites Jamaica settled for third in 42.33 seconds, despite featuring sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

“I did not think too much of [the] others, I just knew that if I gave my all, it would come out all right,” Eduan said in a post race interview.

“I have a mentality of a winner, I don’t care if Shericka or Shelly-Ann, respect to them, are running. I am going to give my all and I’m going to pass them and I’m going to win. And we did that.”

Elsewhere, Canada placed fifth with a national record of 42.46 seconds, ahead of Belgium (42.85s) and the Netherlands (43.21s). Germany failed to finish after a baton mishap in the third exchange.

The British success didn’t stop there. The team also bagged a bronze medal in the inaugural mixed 4x100m relay, with Asha Philip, Kissiwaa Mensah, Jeriel Quainoo, and Joe Ferguson clocking 40.88 seconds.

Meanwhile, the women’s 4x400m squad delivered a strong showing in their qualifying heat, maintaining the lead on the final leg to post a time of 3:24.46.

The results mean all five Great Britain relay teams have secured qualification for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, scheduled for September 13–21, 2025.
