The American sprint star, Sha’Carri Richardson has been nominated for the 2025 BET Sportswoman of the Year Award.
This marks her fourth nomination. So far, she hasn’t won. In 2022, she lost to Naomi Osaka. In 2023 and 2024, Angel Reese took the prize. But Richardson is back — and hungry for a win.
She’s up against an elite lineup. Simone Biles, Coco Gauff, Angel Reese, Flau’jae Johnson, A’ja Wilson, Claressa Shields, JuJu Watkins, and Dawn Staley are all in the running. Each one had a standout year.
Richardson’s 2024 season was memorable. She won silver in the 100m at the Paris Olympics. Then, she powered Team USA to gold in the 4x100m relay — a moment that lit up the track.
Now, she hopes those performances will convince judges she deserves the crown this time.
The BET Awards, created in 2001, celebrate Black excellence in music, film, sports, and culture. Winning this award would be a major milestone for Richardson.
At 25, she is still at the top of her game. Though her 2025 season hasn’t started yet, she is expected to defend her 100m world title in Tokyo this September.
With her speed, charisma, and growing legacy, Richardson is more than just a sprinter — she’s a cultural icon. Will this be her moment?
