Kenyans Dominate Men’s Podium at 2025 Route du Louvre Marathon

Edwin Koech leads Kenyan sweep as Kena Girma Elala wins women’s race in Lens, France

Kenyans showcased their marathon prowess at the 2025 Route du Louvre Marathon held in Lens, France. Edwin Koech led the men’s race, crossing the finish line first with a time of 2:08:53. Close behind, Victor Biwott secured second place, finishing in 2:09:05. John Ewoi completed the Kenyan podium sweep by taking third with a time of 2:09:18.

Meanwhile, this clean sweep at du Louvre Marathon highlighted Kenya’s continued dominance in long-distance running and its depth of talent in marathon events.

The men’s race featured a competitive field, but the Kenyan trio broke away early and maintained their lead throughout. Their strong teamwork and pacing made it difficult for other runners to challenge them. Moreover, Koech’s victory marked a significant achievement in his career and added to Kenya’s impressive marathon legacy.

On the women’s side, Ethiopia’s Kena Girma Elala claimed the top spot with a winning time of 2:32:58 at the Route du Louvre Marathon. She outpaced a strong field that included French athletes Constance Lestrelin and Coralie Baudoux. Lestrelin finished second in 2:53:56, while Baudoux took third with a time of 2:58:23. Girma Elala’s win demonstrated Ethiopia’s strength in women’s distance running.

In addition, the du Louvre Marathon attracted over 2,000 participants, celebrating its 20th edition with enthusiastic crowds lining the streets. The race route through Lens offered a scenic yet challenging course that tested the endurance of all runners. Organisers praised the Route du Louvre Marathon event’s success and the high level of competition displayed.

Overall, the 2025 Route du Louvre Marathon reinforced East Africa’s dominance in marathon running. The three Kenyans swept the podium, while Ethiopia’s Girma Elala shone in the women’s race. Fans and athletes now look forward to more thrilling races in the coming season.

However, the athletics world awaits whether East Africa will get a serious competitor in the long-distance running.
