Everything Fans Need to Know to Watch the High-Stakes Relay Showdown in Guangzhou

Track and field enthusiasts worldwide are gearing up for one of the season’s most thrilling events: the 2025 World Athletics Relays. This year, the competition unfolds over two action-packed days, May 10 and 11, at the Guangzhou Tianhe Sports Centre in China. The venue has been upgraded to meet international standards and will be hosting the relays for the first time.

World Athletics Relays draws top relay teams from 43 countries, all competing not just for medals but for coveted qualification spots at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Meanwhile, the World Athletics Relays feature six relay events. That is men’s and women’s 4x100m and 4x400m, plus the mixed 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Notably, the mixed 4x100m relay makes its debut at a major competition, adding a new layer of excitement and strategy.

Over 730 athletes will take to the track, with each nation allowed one team per event and up to eight athletes listed. The stakes are high.  The top 14 finishers in each event, except the mixed 4x100m, earn automatic qualification to the Tokyo World Championships.

Where to Watch

Fans can watch the relays live on Peacock in the United States, with CNBC sharing coverage on Sunday.

Canada – Watch Days 1 and 2 on CBC.

United Kingdom – In the UK, you can watch the World Athletics Relays Championships live on the BBC, specifically on BBC iPlayer, BBC Sport website, and BBC Sport app.

The competition schedule begins early each day to align with Guangzhou’s local time (UTC+8). On Saturday, May 10, heats start at 7:01 AM local time with the mixed 4x100m relay, followed by qualifying rounds for men’s and women’s 4x100m and 4x400m events.

Meanwhile, Sunday, May 11, features finals and repechage rounds, culminating in the men’s and women’s 4x400m relay finals around 9:49 AM local time.

Additionally, all eyes are now in Guangzhou. Moreover,  fans can only expect thrilling races , fierce rivalries and a showcase of teamwork and speed that will set the tone for upcoming athletics event.
