Olympic medalist Gabby Thomas isn’t just turning heads on the track, she’s making waves in the fashion world, too. Fresh off a dominant 200m victory in Kingston and a $100,000 payday from Grand Slam Track, the Harvard graduate brought her signature poise to the 2025 Met Gala.
Under this year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” Thomas made a quiet yet powerful statement with her custom-designed gown. At first glance, the bold red silk dress, beaded with cascading crystals, was a showstopper. But for those who looked closer, the hidden details revealed a deeper narrative.
A Dress That Tells a Story

Designed by Priya Ahluwalia, the gown seamlessly blended haute couture with Thomas’ athletic identity. The most striking feature is the neckline’s architectural detailing, subtly mimicking the curves of a running track.
“The neckline has this amazing architectural detailing designed to mimic the shape of a track,” Thomas explained to Cosmopolitan.com.
The beaded embellishments, inspired by the Harlem Renaissance, added another layer of significance—celebrating both cultural heritage and personal strength.
“It’s such a showstopper of a dress, so we knew the makeup had to be impeccable as well,” she added.
Her glam squad, including Charlotte Tilbury, ensured her beauty look matched the gown’s drama, completing one of the night’s most unforgettable ensembles.
A Champion in Every Sense
Thomas’ Met Gala appearance came just weeks after a bittersweet performance at Grand Slam Track’s Miami stop. After a fourth-place finish in the 100m, she roared back with a wind-legal 21.95 in the 200m—tying for first. Yet, despite the strong showing, she narrowly missed the overall points title to Melissa Jefferson-Wooden.
“Some things we could’ve done better,” Thomas reflected post-race.
But with her characteristic determination, she hinted at more to come.
“I think I’ll keep it as a surprise for now.”
Between her near-miss in Miami and her symbolic Met Gala look, Thomas seems to be sending a clear message: She’s not just chasing medals, she’s crafting a legacy. Whether on the track or the red carpet, she moves with intention, blending speed, style, and substance like no one else.
