Belinda Chemutai, a Ugandan athlete, received a three-year ban for doping. Her B sample tested positive in 2025, leading to the suspension. In a competition in Riga, Latvia, in 2023, Chemutai provided a urine sample. Officials divided the sample into A and B vials for testing. The A sample initially showed no prohibited substances present. However, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) chose to analyse the B sample later.

The AIU informed Chemutai of their decision to split the B sample. They offered her the chance to attend the splitting procedure. Chemutai agreed to the procedure happening without her presence. Following the B sample analysis, the AIU found banned substances. The three-year suspension for Chemutai began on April 11, 2025.

This case highlights doping control challenges and rigorous testing protocols. It also emphasises the AIU’s commitment to thorough investigations.

Ugandan athletics has battled doping issues in the past. Leaders urge athletes to protect the sport’s integrity. Chemutai’s ban warns athletes about the consequences of doping. The Athletics Integrity Unit maintains a list of ineligible individuals. This list ensures transparency and clean competition globally.
