From the gun, Kerr positioned himself near the front, shadowing early leaders Marco Arop of Canada and Yared Nuguse of the United States. However, the trio kept the tempo honest, with Paris Olympic champion Cole Hocker also in close pursuit. As the bell rang for the final lap, Josh Kerr made his decisive move. He, accelerating down the backstretch, opening a crucial gap.
