Eliud Kipchoge, 40, Faces Younger Rivals at 2025 London Marathon

Kenya`s Eliud Kipchoge has made a bold statement ahead of the 2025 London Marathon.

“I believe that everybody who is younger than me is better than me,” the 40-year-old said. “I am not better than them because of my age. I know I was the best, but the younger ones are stronger now.”

Eliud Kipchoge will race against top runners like Sabastian Sawe, Alexander Mutiso, and Jacob Kiplimo on April 27. The Kenyan star, a four-time London winner, aims to prove age is just a number. “My body is responding well to training,” he added confidently.

The 2025 event will be the largest London Marathon ever, with 56,000 participants. Olympic champions Tamirat Tola and Sifan Hassan will also compete. Kiplimo, a half-marathon world record holder, is making his marathon debut.

Eliud Kipchoge remains focused despite the tough competition. His unmatched record includes two Olympic golds and breaking the two-hour marathon barrier. Rival Kenenisa Bekele’s withdrawal may help, but Mutiso, last year’s winner, poses a threat.

Eliud Kipchoge sees the race as more than a personal challenge. “It’s about inspiring others,” he said. As thousands gather in London, all eyes will be on the veteran champion and his battle against time and youth

Eliud Kipchoge Focus

Eliud Kipchoge is widely regarded as the greatest marathon runner of all time, with a career focused on long-distance running and marathon events. He began his career excelling in track events, notably winning the 5000 meters world championship in 2003 and earning Olympic medals in 2004 and 2008.

He transitioned to road running in 2012 and has since dominated major marathons, including winning the London Marathon four times and the Berlin Marathon five times. Kipchoge made history by running the marathon distance in under two hours during the 2019 INEOS 1:59 Challenge, a landmark achievement in athletics. He has also won back-to-back Olympic marathon gold medals in 2016 and 2020 and has set multiple world records in the marathon.

 Kipchoge`s Family

Kipchoge is married to Grace Sugut, whom he met through her brother. They have three children together. The family maintains a relatively low profile, with Kipchoge valuing their support as key to his success. They live in a multi-million Kenyan shilling house in the upmarket Elgon View Estate in Eldoret, about 30 kilometres from his training camp. Kipchoge also owns a rural home in Kapsisiywa, reflecting his grounded lifestyle despite his fame and wealth.

Eliud Kipchoge`s wealth comes from prize money earned through numerous marathon victories, lucrative endorsement deals—most notably with Nike—and investments in real estate and business ventures related to sports management and training facilities. He is also involved in philanthropic efforts focusing on education, environmental protection, and health initiatives through the Eliud Kipchoge Foundation, which he established in 2021.
