Olympic 200m champion, Letsile Tebogo, is gearing up for an electrifying performance at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Shanghai/Keqiao on 3 May 2024.
The 21-year-old phenom will compete in the fiercely competitive 100m event, where he will face off against some of the world’s fastest men. Fresh off his historic Olympic triumph and a stellar 2023 season, Tebogo is ready to make his mark in his Diamond League debut in China.
Letsile Tebogo has rapidly ascended to the pinnacle of global sprinting, showcasing his extraordinary talent across multiple distances. After 2021 and 2022 U20 100m wins, he transitioned seamlessly to senior competition. He won 200m gold at Paris 2024 Olympics, setting an African record of 19.46 seconds.
At the Paris Olympics, he shattered Botswana’s 100m national record with a blistering 9.86 seconds, finishing sixth. Tebogo showcased his incredible range by anchoring Botswana’s 4x400m relay team to silver with an astonishing 43.04-second split.
In 2022, he burst onto the global stage by breaking the World U20 100m record with 9.91 in Cali, Colombia. He cemented his elite status by winning silver in the 100m and bronze in the 200m at Budapest 2023
Most recently, he played a pivotal role in Botswana’s gold medal-winning 4x400m relay team at the World Relays. His exceptional performances earned him the prestigious Male Athlete of the Year and Male Track Athlete of the Year honors at the World Athletics Awards.
The Shanghai/Keqiao Diamond League will mark Tebogo’s first appearance in the prestigious series, and expectations are sky-high.
