Hellen Obiri, the two-time defending champion, says she wants to make history at the 2025 Boston Marathon. Obiri told reporters, “I want to make it happen,” as she prepares to become the first woman in over 25 years to win three consecutive Boston Marathons.
Hellen Obiri trained hard this winter in Kenya. Her coach, Dathan Ritzenhein, says she is in the best shape she has been in two years. He noted that her recent long runs are faster than ever before. Obiri feels much fitter than last year.
“She’s done three 40k runs that were faster than what she would do on the traditional route that we do in Boulder and a couple of 35k runs that are faster.” said Dathan Ritzenhein
“Three marathons in seven months last year were very hard, physically and mentally.” he added.
Moreover, on Hellen Obiri’s chances for a historic third consecutive Boston win, Ritzenhein said, “Her training data has been very good, and she is in her best shape ever.” He expressed confidence in her ability to handle the course and compete at the highest level, calling her preparation “incredible” and signalling that she is ready to make history.
The Boston Marathon course challenges many runners with its hills, especially the famous Heartbreak Hill. Hellen Obiri knows the course well and believes her experience gives her an advantage. She said the hill is tough but manageable for her.
Hellen Obiri’s goal excites fans and raises the stakes in this year’s race. Winning three times in a row would put her alongside legends like Fatuma Roba. The competition remains fierce, but Obiri’s determination and fitness make her a top contender.
Obiri`s Fierce Competitors
Hellen Obiri faces fierce competition from top runners. Sharon Lokedi, fresh off a NYC Half Marathon win, pushes hard to challenge Obiri’s dominance. Amane Beriso, the 2023 World Champion, races with determination to claim the crown. Edna Kiplagat, a two-time Boston winner, and Yalemzerf Yehualaw add pressure with their strong pace.
Moreover, Irine Cheptai and Keira D’Amato, America’s fastest entrants, fight to break through the Kenyan and Ethiopian ranks.
The Boston Marathon will take place on April 21, drawing elite runners and thousands of spectators. Obiri’s pursuit of a third straight title adds drama and excitement to one of the world’s most prestigious races.
