Kenya`s sprint sentation Ferdinand Omanyala set to share Podium with his brother Isaac Omurwa. Will Isaac outpace Omanyala?
Ferdinand Omanyala and his younger brother Isaac Omurwa will represent Kenya at the 2025 World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China. This marks a significant milestone for the two brothers and their family. The event is scheduled for May 10 and 11, where Ferdinand Omanyala and Isaac Omurwa will compete together in Kenya’s men’s 4x100m relay team. Other outsatnding athletes poised to compete alongide them are Meshack Babu, Mark Otieno, Steven Onyango, and Moses Wasike.
Omanyala, Africa’s 100m record holder and Commonwealth champion, has expressed his pride and excitement at the anticipation of running with his brother on such a grand stage. He has congratulated Isaac on making his first senior national team and described the opportunity to compete together as both a blessing and a joy.
Congratulations to my brother Isaac Omurwa for making your first senior national team. It will be a blessing and joy to run alongside you at the world relays in China, Ferdinand stated.
Isaac Omurwa, who has followed in his brother’s footsteps from rugby to sprinting, has credited Ferdinand for his constant encouragement. The brothers’ friendly rivalry and mutual motivation have driven both to excel, with Isaac now poised to make his mark at the world level. While addressing The Sports Moran, Isaac said,
“ Omanyala has influenced me in many things, advising me, this track, not many can access it or the gym, so because of him, I can say he is giving me like 98 percent.
“I think I can follow in his footsteps and break his records. I usually tell him that one day, I will run with him and defeat him in the same race and he is happy about that.”
Morover, Omanyal has advised his brther to remain focused non the course. Meanwhile, Kenya’s full relay squad for the men’s 4x100m includes the Omanyala brothers, Meshack Babu, Mark Otieno, Steven Onyango, and Moses Wasike. Additionally, their participation in Guangzhou is seen as a major boost for Kenya’s sprinting ambitions, which could inspire future generations of Kenyan sprinters.
Races That Isaac Omurwa Has Already Particpated in
The 18- year old who has transitioned from Rugby, has already competed in three races so far. Thatt is, the East Africa Championships trials where he won with a personal best of 10.73. Later Isaac won the regional title in Da es Salaam, Tanzania. His latest race being the World Athletic Relay trials , held by Athletics Kenya, at the Nyayo National Stadium, on 6th April.
Moreover, the 2025 World Athletics Relays will serve as a qualifier for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo later in the year.
