Geoffrey Kamworor, Rotterdam Marathon Winner

Geoffrey Kamworor won the Rotterdam Marathon title in a stunning display of 2:04:33 to claim victory on one of the world’s fastest marathon courses. The Kenyan runner, a two-time New York Marathon champion, delivered a commanding performance on Sunday, April 13, 2025, marking his first major win of the year.

Kamworor entered the race aiming to break his personal best of 2:04:23 set at the 2023 London Marathon. Though he fell just short of that mark, his victory in Rotterdam reaffirms his position as one of the sport’s elite marathoners. The flat streets of Rotterdam provided the perfect stage for Kamworor’s tactical brilliance and strong finishing.

However, Kamworor faced stiff competition from Timothy Kiplagat and Amedework Walelegn. Kiplagat, the 2023 runner-up, finished second with a time of 2:04:50, while Walelegn claimed third in 2:05:12. Kamworor’s ability to outpace such formidable rivals highlights his exceptional form and resilience.

The Rotterdam Marathon has long been known for its record-breaking potential, with past champions setting world-class times. Kamworor’s win adds to the event’s legacy and underscores Kenya’s dominance in long-distance running. With this victory, Kamworor bounces back from a challenging 2024 season and sets the tone for an exciting year ahead.

Moreover, Geoffrey Kamworor cemented his place among marathon legends. His focus now shifts to upcoming races, where he will aim to further lower his personal best and challenge for more titles. As one of Kenya’s most decorated athletes, Kamworor continues to inspire with his consistency and determination on the global stage.

Geoffrey Kamwaror’s Athletics Career

Geoffrey Kamworor won the 2011 U20 race at the World Cross Country Championships in Punta Umbria, marking his global debut. In 2012, he finished third in his marathon debut at Berlin with a time of 2:06:12.

In 2014, Kamworor claimed his first senior global title by winning the World Half Marathon Championship in Copenhagen. The following year, he secured the World Cross Country title in Guiyang and won silver in the 10,000m at the World Championships in Beijing.

In 2016, Kamworor retained his World Half Marathon title in Cardiff, clocking 59:10 despite a fall during the race. A year later, he won his first New York City Marathon title in 2:10:53 after a close battle with Wilson Kipsang.

Kamworor continued his success in 2018 by achieving a hat-trick of World Half Marathon titles in Valencia and finishing third at the New York City Marathon. In 2019, he broke the half marathon world record in Copenhagen with a time of 58:01 and regained his New York City Marathon title.

After overcoming a motorcycle accident and surgery in 2020, Kamworor returned to competitive running within six months. In 2023, he finished second at the London Marathon with a personal best of 2:04:23.
