Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, fresh off her dominant double victory in the 400m hurdles and 400m flat at the Grand Slam Track opener in Kingston, Jamaica, revealed her plans for the $100,000 prize money during an interview on April 8, 2025.
In an interview with FloTrack on April 8, 2025, McLaughlin-Levrone chuckled at the thought of lavish spending.
“I’ll probably just save it—nothing too exciting,” she said.
At just 25 years old, the world record holder is choosing financial discipline over extravagance.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone clocked a blistering 52.76 seconds in her signature 400m hurdles event and followed it up with a 50.32-second finish in the 400m flat. Both wins achieved under gusty, challenging conditions.
Beyond the races and the money, what truly lit up her experience in Jamaica was the energy of the people.
Speaking in a separate post-race interview with Citius Mag, McLaughlin-Levrone couldn’t hide her appreciation for the warm reception.
“It was amazing. Great opportunity. I’m so excited for where this can go for the athletes and for track and field. Yeah, it was just a really fun first meet,” she said.
“The food was really good! The seasoning was great — my husband had wings last night, so I’m going to go try those,” she added.
“Honestly, the best thing was the people. Everyone was just so friendly and welcoming. To be able to walk into a stadium you’ve never been in and feel so much love , it just makes it really fun to run and want to put on a show.”
With this performance, McLaughlin-Levrone now leads the Grand Slam Track series and is embracing the unique dual-challenge of competing in both the hurdles and the flat 400m.
“I think it adds a dual element to it. It’s fun to switch from the hurdle mindset to the flat mindset. Overall, it just makes you a better athlete. I don’t think there’s pressure — it’s just about focusing on yourself and performing.”
As the series moves on to its next stops in Miami, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles, McLaughlin-Levrone carries not only her winning form but also the spirit of a new fanbase that fell in love with her in the Caribbean.
