Budapest set to host World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting after 11 years

Five global athletics champions will compete at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial on August 12, 2025. The event returns to Budapest after 11 years in Szekesfehervar and will take place at the National Athletics Center, which hosted the 2023 World Athletics Championships.

The Istvan Gyulai Memorial will feature Mondo Duplantis, the two-time Olympic pole vault champion and reigning world champion. Duplantis set a meeting record of 5.80m in 2022 and will face European indoor champion Emmanouil Karalis. Their rivalry promises an electrifying showdown that fans won’t want to miss.

Additionally, world 400m hurdles champion Femke Bol will compete at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial. Bol won gold at the World Championships in Budapest in 2023 and has previously claimed victories at this meeting. Her return adds excitement to an already star-studded lineup.

Meanwhile, Ethan Katzberg, the Olympic and world hammer throw champion, will compete alongside Hungary’s Bence Halasz, an Olympic medallist. Their thrilling competition is expected to excite local fans. Additionally, Greek long jump sensation Miltiadis Tentoglou, a two-time winner at this meeting, aims to extend his winning streak.

Moreover, Bahamian sprinter Steven Gardiner returns to defend his crown at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial. Gardiner has won the 400m six times at this event and set a meeting record of 43.74 seconds in 2023. However, he faces stiff competition from Hungary’s Attila Molnar, the European indoor champion.

Adding local flavor to the event are Hungarian athletes Luca Kozak and Boglarka Takacs. Kozak, a European silver medallist in the 100m hurdles, and Takacs, Hungary’s sprint record holder, bring national pride and excitement to the competition.
