Jamaican sprint sensation Oblique Seville has set his sights on challenging the world’s best in the 200m. Seville has sent out a strong statement to top sprinters like Noah Lyles, Kenny Bednarek, and Letsile Tebogo, declaring his intent to dominate the half-lap race.
Having struggled with injuries that kept him away from the half-lap race, Oblique Seville now says he’s healthy and ready to take on the 200m seriously. The 24-year-old believes this transition will not only boost his versatility but also sharpen his performance in the 100m.
“Honestly, I’ve wanted to run the 200m for quite some time. This is my opportunity and I’m taking it as a stepping stone to help with the 100m,” Seville told CITIUS MAG.
“I want to show some of my competitors that I can also perform in the 200m, but injuries held me back.”
With a personal best of 20.17 seconds, Seville is targeting a sub-20 performance this season, setting his sights on breaking the elusive 19-second barrier.
“I think I can run 19 seconds on the track. I ran 19 on the straight last year, but that doesn’t really count for me,” he said.
He has already kicked off his season with a win in the 400m at the Camperdown Classics, followed by a dominant 200m victory at Velocity Fest #16. In his latest outing, Seville placed second behind Kenny Bednarek in the 100m at the Grand Slam Track Kingston, further fueling his hunger for redemption.
With a clear vision and growing confidence, Seville is eager to prove that he belongs among the world’s best, not just in the 100m, but in the 200m as well.
