Saint Lucia’s sprint sensation, Julien Alfred, has expressed confidence as she gears up for the Miramar Invitational this weekend.
.
The Olympic 200m silver medalist will make waves in the 100m and 200m at Miramar on Saturday, April 5.
.
Julien Alfred kicked off her campaign by winning the 300m at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix.
.
She followed that up with another stellar performance, winning the 400m at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational.
.
Alfred continued her winning streak by anchoring the 4x400m relay at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
.
In a recent interview with Real Talk with Tee, Alfred opened up about her current form and the rigorous training regimen under Coach Edrick Floreal.
.
She emphasized how the work she has put in has transformed her physically and mentally, making her stronger than ever before.
.
“I’m getting stronger. The way I finished, although my butt was tight, I really feel good and more confident in my strength,” Alfred said.
.
The 23-year-old sprinter revealed that the Miramar Invitational will mark her final 300m race of the season before she shifts her full attention to the 100m and 200m, her primary events.
.
“We are done with the 400m, we still have a 300m to run in Miramar, and then we’ll be focusing on my 100m and 200m… I’m excited for that,” she shared.
.
“I’m just realizing how strong I am, and I’m already seeing what I can do. It’s just for me to go out there, trust his training, and work on the execution.”
.
Alfred has never shied away from admitting her mixed feelings about the 400m. Despite her success in the event, she acknowledges the pain that comes with it. However, she credits the discipline required for the quarter-mile with improving her stamina and late-race resilience in the 200m.
.
“It’s a 400m, of course, it’s going to hurt,” she admitted.
.
“My coach and I have been focusing on strength to improve the final 20-30 meters of my race. There’s also the 200m, so I’m really trusting the process. I’m just happy to be healthy.”
.
Despite her Olympic success, Alfred is determined to secure a medal in the 100m or 200m at the World Championships.
