Magnanimous Seb Coe pledges to work with Kirsty Coventry after Olympic presidency loss

Beaten World Athletics president Lord Sebastian Coe dusted himself quickly from the resounding loss to 41 year old former swimmer Kirsty Coventry and congratulated the Zimbabwean on her election as the new President of International Olympic Committee (IOC).

World Athletics President Sebastian Coe said: “On behalf of World Athletics, we wish to congratulate Kirsty on her election as future President of the International Olympic Committee.

“As President of the No.1 Olympic sport, we look forward to working closely with Kirsty to ensure that sport remains the priority of the IOC, and athletes the driving force behind the new president’s agenda.”

Despite appearing is the sole uncompromised candidate in the poll, Lord Coe only got 8 votes out of 97 while Zimbabwe’s Sports Minister Coventry collected 49.

Spaniard Juan Antonio Samaranch jr was second with 28 votes leaving the World Athletics supremo languishing in third.
